Färjestad Women

Färjestad enter the 2025–26 season in the SDHL for the first time, having spent their entire history working up from the lower divisions. Julie Gough led the scoring in that debut top-flight campaign, and how far the squad has come since will show against clubs that have never known anything but the top tier.

The women's section was set up in the spring of 2014 as a branch of Färjestad BK, and for years it played out in Division 1 Västra and the Damallsvenskan without much attention beyond Karlstad. The breakthrough came in the 2022–23 season, when the team won Division 1 Västra, followed by a runners-up finish in the Damallsvenskan the year after. Promotion followed the way promotion is supposed to: winning the NDHL playoffs, then beating Leksands IF in the qualification series in March 2025.

Leksand remain the club it measures itself against — the Värmlandsderby carries more weight than the fixture list alone would suggest, sharpened now that both sides meet in the same league. Home games are played at Löfbergs Arena, which holds around 8,645, on the black, white and yellow of the parent club and under its badge; the team also carries the men's side's old nickname, Kungarna, earned across decades of Swedish championships the women's section has yet to chase.

Emma Murén played for the club before stepping away after the 2024–25 season to become general manager, a switch from the ice to the running of it that says something about how young the SDHL project still is.
