Marupe beat Super Nova 2 2:1 in the 19th round of the 1. league on Friday. The hosts ground out the win despite Super Nova 2 having a man sent off before half-time. It was a result that moved Marupe further clear in sixth place, while Super Nova 2 remain seven spots below them in the table.
I. Strelcovs opened the scoring in the 39th minute, giving Marupe the lead before Super Nova 2 had to deal with a disciplinary blow. J. Cugunovs received his first red card in the 59th minute, then picked up another booking in the 60th. It was a double punishment that left Super Nova 2 chasing the game for most of the second half.
R. Krievins equalised for the visitors in the 64th minute, and for a while it looked as though Super Nova 2 might salvage something from this. They had the game won inside twenty minutes of the restart, but Marupe held firm and then found a winner when D. Avdejevs struck in the 84th minute.
The three points move Marupe to 25 points from 19 games, one clear of Super Nova 2 who sit on 24. It ends a run of just one win in five for the hosts, and breaks a streak of poor form that had seen them lose four of their last five league matches.
