Budowlani Lublin

Lublin's rugby side grew out of a 1975 push by the Ministry of Construction, which asked KS Spójnia LSM to open two new sections, kayaking and rugby, and Leszek Naskręt took on the job of setting the second one up. The first training session ran that February, and by September the team was already in a league match, losing 9:10 to Bałtyk Gdynia. A year later they beat Czarni Bytom 10:3 to go up to the top flight at the first attempt, having finished second in the II liga.

Budowlani never took the national title outright, but the early 1990s brought them closest: silver in 1990 and 1992, bronze either side of it in 1991 and 1993, with Mirosław Janeczko the division's most effective player in the 1992 campaign. A Polish Cup followed in 2002, and a further bronze in 2003. Stanisław Więciorek ran through much of that period as captain, both for the club and for the Polish national side, before moving into coaching there.

The club has gone down and come back up often enough that the pattern reads as routine rather than crisis: relegated in 1978, 1982, 2007 and 2014, promoted again in 1979, 1984, 2011 and 2016. Matches against Budowlani Łódź are still billed as the "Derby of the Budowlani".

At home they play in front of no more than 1,000 people at the Stadion Budowlanych on Krasińskiego street, which is also where the nickname comes from: locally the team is known simply as the Fifteen from Krasińskiego.
