The rise from there was fast. In 2020/21 the team won the Torneo Regional Federal Amateur, beating Independiente de Neuquén 3-0 in the final to earn a place in Torneo Federal A. Ciudad de Bolívar drew 0-0 with Atlético Rafaela in the Federal A final, then won it 5-4 on penalties, and for the first time went up into Primera Nacional, Argentina's second tier.
Alfredo Troncoso spent five years scoring the club's goals across that climb, long enough to become its historic top scorer. Hernán Darío Ortiz, known as "Indio", coached the side through part of the run.
