Monte Maíz's one trip to Torneo Federal A came down to a penalty shootout. In the 2021-22 Torneo Regional Federal Amateur final, Argentino drew 1-1 with Rivadavia of Lincoln, then held its nerve in the shootout, winning 6-5.
The step up also opened a door that had never been open before: a place in the Copa Argentina. Argentino's debut there, in 2024, brought a 0-3 defeat to reigning champions Estudiantes of La Plata. The following year it drew Boca Juniors in the first round and lost 0-5.
Long before any of that, the club had already made its name closer to home. It has won the Liga Regional de Fútbol Adrián Beccar Varela eleven times, from 1969 through to 2023, making it one of the most successful sides in that Córdoba competition, and in 1992-93 it reached the final stage of the Centro Oeste region in the Torneo del Interior. Home games are played at the Estadio Modesto Marrone, opened in 1986 and now holding 5,500, with the team out in white and blue vertical stripes.
None of it would have happened without a falling-out. Argentino was formed by a group of players and officials who broke away from Club Atlético Lambert over a dispute inside that club. Lambert has been the rival ever since, and the derby between the two still carries its own name: the Clásico de Monte Maíz.
