The record reads nine seasons in Argentina's Primera División between 1967 and 1980, and inside that stretch two years stand above the rest: third place in 1974, third again in 1978, with fourth-place finishes either side of them in 1972 and 1976.
Everything since has circled back to the province. San Martín, known to its own as El León — the Lion, sometimes shortened to El Leoncito — took the Liga Mendocina de Fútbol ten times, most recently in 2022 and before that in 2018, with earlier titles stretching back to 1963.
The shirt gives the club its formal name: Albirrojo, for the red and white vertical stripes it has worn through that history, and the stadium supplies a second nickname — El Chacarero, after the ground itself. That ground, Estadio General José de San Martín, sits on Calle Boulogne Sur Mer y Lavalle and holds 8,782.
