«El Verde»
The people who split from Asociación Sportiva Rawson to start their own team didn't have to look far for a home ground name: El Fortín. It came later, in 1975, but the word fits a club that has spent a century defending the same patch of the Chubut valley without ever moving from Rawson.
Green and white vertical stripes, black shorts, green socks — the kit gave the club its name, El Verde, and its identity in a region where Germinal has no rival worth the name. Twenty-eight regional league titles sit on the record, stretching from 1927 through spells of near-total dominance in the 1990s and 2000s, when the club took both the Apertura and Clausura in the same year more than once. No other side in the Liga del Valle del Chubut comes close.
Beyond the valley, the club's story ran thinner for decades: a Torneo Regional final lost to Ferro of General Pico in 1984, a disqualification in 2011 after crowd trouble, then a return to the AFA structure in 2012 through the Torneo Argentino B and a first-ever Copa Argentina appearance, ended in the opening round by CAI. What changed everything came on 7 February 2023, when Germinal beat Independiente de San Cayetano 3-1 in the Torneo Regional Federal Amateur final — a result overshadowed by disorder on the terraces but one that sent the club into the Torneo Federal A for the first time in its history.
It was, in the end, still the same team that had broken away from Sportiva Rawson to build something of its own.
