Cipolletti play their home matches at La Visera de Cemento. Its official capacity is put at 15,000, the largest ground in Río Negro province, though other listings give a lower figure, somewhere in the 11,000–12,000 range.

Founded in 1926, the club wears black and white — vertical stripes on the shirt, black shorts and socks — the colours behind the nickname Albinegro. An older nickname, El Capataz de la Patagonia, the foreman of Patagonia, points to something less common: for a club from this far south, reaching Argentina's top division at all was rare.

That first trip up came in 1973, sealed by a penalty from Omar Perales, a midfielder who spent his whole career at Cipolletti. The club returned to the Primera División five more times, in 1975, 1977, 1979, 1980 and 1985, and later spent ten seasons in Primera Nacional, the second tier. Marcelo Trobbiani, part of Argentina's 1986 World Cup-winning squad, worked at the club as technical director a decade later.

The fiercest date on the calendar is against Deportivo Roca, from nearby General Roca — a fixture known locally as the Clásico Valletano.

None of Cipolletti's honours have come at national level. Its silverware is regional: the Torneo Argentino B title of 2006/07, and 28 championships of the Liga Deportiva Confluencia. The closest the club has come to breaking through was in 2016/17, when it lost a playoff final to Juventud Antoniana with promotion to Primera Nacional at stake.
