Aldosivi, from Mar del Plata, is the name that gives Santamarina's fixtures against them a different weight than the rest of the calendar; no formal name attaches to the meetings, but both clubs treat them as the ones that matter most. Everything else in Tandil measures itself against the local league, where Santamarina has won 35 titles, eight of them in a row between 1959 and 1966.
That name has not always stuck. In 1992, with the club stripped of its own stadium during an economic crisis, it played for a time as Unión Obrera Metalúrgica. A reorganisation in 1998, under the name Deportivo Santamarina, restored the identity it carries now — and the club has never left Tandil for anywhere else.
Two promotions define the modern era: the Torneo Argentino B title in 2005/06 sent Santamarina up to Argentino A, and the Argentino A title in 2013/14 took it into Primera B Nacional. A single campaign in the Torneo Nacional, back in 1985, ended with second place in its group; no top-division title has followed.
