Philadelphia Union beat Orlando City 4-2 in the MLS regular season at Subaru Park on Friday evening. Milan Iloski scored three goals to steer his side to victory, while Indiana Vassilev and Martin Ojeda added late touches. The result leaves Philadelphia sixth on 39 points and Orlando seventh on 34.
It was Iloski who set the tone, converting a penalty in the eleventh minute before finding the net again at the nineteen-minute mark. Orlando pressed forward but could not respond until Vassilev equalised early in the second half. And here's the thing — Philadelphia never looked back after that.
Iloski completed his hat-trick in the fifty-first minute, putting the hosts firmly in control. Orlando pulled one back through Iván Angulo in the seventy-eighth, but Ojeda sealed it with a late effort in the ninetieth. By then, the game had already been decided.
Orlando dominated possession with 64 per cent but struggled to convert their territory into clear opportunities. They created only two big chances compared to Philadelphia's six, and their shot accuracy stood at a mere 18 per cent. To be fair, they had more attacks overall, but efficiency was lacking.
Philadelphia's defence held firm despite conceding twice. They made 26 clearances and won 17 tackles, while Orlando managed just 22 clearances and 11 tackles. The visitors had more passes overall but failed to break through consistently.
This win extends Philadelphia's recent good form. They have not lost in five matches, with victories over Sporting Kansas City, San Diego, Cincinnati, Montreal and New York Red Bulls. The prediction that they would beat Orlando proved correct — confidence was moderate, but the performance justified it.
