Levice

Basketball took hold at the Levice Gymnasium in 1941, and BK Patrioti Levice traces itself back to that first mention. What has followed since is a stretch of dominance rare in Slovak sport.

The run has not been confined to the domestic league. Patrioti added the Slovak Cup in 2018/19 and again in 2023/24, and in 2021/22 beat Pardubice in the final to take the Alpe Adria Cup, its first continental honour. European competition, though, comes with a complication: the club's own hall in Levice seats around 2,250, short of what the Basketball Champions League requires, so for those nights Patrioti relocate to Bratislava.

The roster has also carried a strong Finnish contingent in recent seasons, with Severi Kaukiainen, Aatu Kivimäki and Joel Mäntynen all coming through in green and yellow.

Nitra provides the fixture that matters most locally. Games against SPU Nitra are billed simply as the "Derby proti Nitre." Prievidza supplies the other regular test.
