Jong AZ produced a devastating offensive display to beat Dordrecht 6-3 in the Eerste Divisie's fifth round on Saturday. The visitors took control early with a penalty from Bendegúz Kovács in the eighth minute, then never looked back despite a spirited second-half fightback from the hosts.
The visitors doubled their lead through Andrea Natali before Nicolas Rossi added a third by the half-hour mark. Dordrecht pulled one back through A. Ouarghi just before the break, but Kovács restored the two-goal cushion with a second penalty shortly after.
The second half saw Dordrecht throw everything forward. Yoël van den Ban, Lorenzo Riccio and Jerolldino Armantrading found the net in quick succession to make it 3-5, but Rio Robbemond sealed the victory with a late consolation for Jong AZ.
The visitors were far more clinical in front of goal. Their shots accuracy stood at 0.64 to Dordrecht's 0.36, and they registered 14 shots on target against just five. Both sides created roughly similar volume of attacks — 97 to 92 — but the quality of finishing made all the difference.
By then the result had moved Jong AZ up to seventh place with nine points from six games. Dordrecht remain in sixteenth with four points from five matches, their recent run of defeats stretching back to mid-August.
The hosts had nothing to do all evening in the first half, but came out for the second period with renewed purpose. They even played the second half a man up, though a red card for Julian Oerip in the fifty-seventh minute ultimately hurt the visitors more than it helped their opponents.
What stands out is how quickly Jong AZ punished their mistakes. They conceded a penalty, then immediately responded with another. The pattern repeated when Dordrecht scored — Kovács struck again before the break. It was a masterclass in responding under pressure.
