Sweden go into the 2026 European Championship as co-hosts, with matches scheduled for the Scandinavium in Gothenburg. Current squad members Daniel Gruvaeus, Johan Gruvaeus, Alfred Brink, Edvin Svärd, Oskar von Sydow and Emil Serreau carry that campaign.

The federation behind the team, Svenska Volleybollförbundet, was founded on 3 June 1961 in Solna, and the national side, nicknamed Blågult after the blue and yellow of the flag, played its first match the following spring, losing 0–3 to Finland in Copenhagen at the 1962 Nordic Championship.

The team's peak came in 1989, when it took silver at the European Championship, beating the Soviet Union in the semi-final along the way. Jan Hedengård captained that side and went on to win a record 387 caps before his induction into the Hall of Fame, while Anders Kristiansson was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2017. Beyond that generation, the gold at the 1986 and 1994 Nordic Championships and further continental silver in 2015 mark the other high points, alongside a Silver League title in 2021.

Denmark remains the fixture that matters most, still called the "grannfejden" — the neighbour feud — in Nordic volleyball circles.
