TJ Sokol Sternberk Women

The gymnasium hall at Dvorská 2515 in Šternberk has a second court at the local elementary school on Dr. Hrubého street used for training when the main hall is booked. It is a setup for a side that has spent well over a decade in the Extraliga, the top flight of Czech women's volleyball.

TJ Sokol Šternberk was registered on 9 December 1994. The senior team spent its first years working through the second division before promotion in 2009, and has not been relegated since — in the top flight for a club from a town. The high point came in 2014, a seventh-place finish that remains the best league placing in the club's history. In the Czech Cup, the closest they have come is a Final Four appearance in the 2020/21 season.

The senior side has never won a trophy, but the production line behind it has. In 2017, the club's Cadets — the under-17 group — were crowned national champions, a title for a team from outside the traditional Czech volleyball centres of Prague, Olomouc or Přerov. Locally the team goes by Sokolky, a nickname that has stuck in regional coverage as firmly as the club's white-and-red colours.
