In Olomouc, autumn means the Haná derby against Prostějov and Přerov, three volleyball sides pulling supporters across the same stretch of Moravia, with a shorter-standing rivalry against Sokol Šternberk known locally as the Central Moravian derby. VK UP Olomouc grew out of Slavia VŠ Olomouc, formed in 1953, and passed through several names — VŠTJ Univerzita Olomouc, SK UP Olomouc, UP Mora Olomouc — before settling on the identity Palacký University's students and staff still recognise on the team sheet, later becoming VK Šantovka Olomouc UP under a sponsorship deal.

The club's best years came early and returned late. Four straight Czech Extraliga titles between 1993 and 1996 built the reputation, and Europe briefly noticed too, with a fourth-place finish in the 1994 Champions League. Then came silence at the top of the table — second-place finishes in 2008, 2011 and 2016 kept them close without closing it out — until the 2018/19 season, when Olomouc won the league again after a 23-year wait. A domestic double followed in the Czech Cup in 2017 and 2018, and the MEVZA Cup arrived in 2023.

Captain Simona Bajusz, a setter with the Czech national team, has carried much of that recent success, running an attack that has leaned increasingly on imports such as Brazil's Heloiza Lacerda and Poland's Wiktoria Nowak. Home games are played at Sportovní hala UP, in the university's blue and orange, in front of up to 2,000 seated spectators.

Between the first Extraliga title and the last, 23 years passed.
