«Eagles of Carthage»
Eleven times Tunisia has stood as African champion in men's volleyball, more than any other side on the continent, and the first gold arrived in 1967, the most recent in 2021. Seven silvers and two bronzes sit alongside those wins.
The Tunisian Volleyball Federation formed in 1956 and joined the FIVB the same year, and the national side has carried the name Eagles of Carthage ever since, playing in red at home and white away.
Mehdi Ben Cheikh runs the team now as setter and captain. Before him came Hichem Kaabi, who played through the 2012 cycle and has since moved to the bench at Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Elyes Karamosli, an outside hitter who went to two Olympics, in 2012 and 2020.
At the Mediterranean Games the Eagles have twice reached the final and lost both, to Italy in 2001 and to Turkey on penalties in 2013. The Palais des Sports d'El Menzah in Tunis, where they play, holds 5,500 people.
