Instituto de Córdoba claim victory away to San Martín de Corrientes
Instituto de Córdoba saw off San Martín de Corrientes 81 to 73 on Thursday in the Liga A, taking all three points from the Corrientes arena. The visitors held firm through the final minutes despite a spirited comeback attempt from the hosts, who refused to go away until the last possession.
San Martín had camped in the final third for much of the contest, but Instituto changed shape at the break and began to work their short corners with more precision. By then the gap had opened enough that the hosts could only chip away at it, and Instituto felt the pressure without letting it show.
We had called for the away side earlier, giving them 53 per cent confidence, and the result confirmed that reading. Instituto's edge came from making their possessions count — they turned 13 turnovers but still managed 15 assists to 14, showing better ball movement when it mattered.
The statistics tell a clear picture: San Martín took 59 shots to 30 from the field for Instituto, yet the visitors converted 30 field goals against just 25. Both sides hit 11 three-pointers, but Instituto's 62 per cent shooting efficiency compared with San Martín's 59 per cent proved decisive.
On the boards the hosts won the rebounding battle 35 to 32, taking eight offensive rebounds to five, but it was not enough to overcome the shooting disparity. San Martín also grabbed 27 defensive rebounds to 27, matching Instituto perfectly in that department.
The result keeps Instituto in tenth place with 20 wins and 16 defeats, while San Martín remain twelfth on 17 wins and 19 losses. The gap between them stays at seven points, and neither side has moved significantly in the standings after this round.
