Sarmitiento de Junín and Belgrano shared the points in a 1-1 draw during the Clausura round nine of the Argentine Professional League at Estadio Eva Perón on Saturday. Junior Marabel opened the scoring for the hosts after a penalty, only for Lucas Passerini to equalise late on for the visitors. The result leaves Sarmitiento in eleventh place with nineteen points and Belgrano fifth on twenty-six.
Marabel tapped in from the spot in the thirty-third minute following a VAR-awarded penalty, though the previous attempt by Cristian Exequiel Zabala had been saved. The home side felt the pressure as Belgrano controlled 75 per cent of possession and launched ninety-six attacks compared to fifty-nine. To be fair, Sarmitiento defended their box with purpose, winning twenty-nine aerial duels and making twenty-five clearances despite the imbalance.
Belgrano's dominance was visible in their passing but they were unable to convert it into a second goal. They created four big chances on each side, yet Sarmitiento's goalkeeper made six saves to keep them in the game. By then the visitors had thrown bodies in the way and worked hard to disrupt rhythm, even as they failed to find a killer touch in the final third.
Jonathan Herrera came on for Sarmitiento in the fifty-seventh minute, followed by a wave of changes from both benches. Belgrano brought on Santiago Longo and Federico Ricca together in the sixty-fourth, while Julián Contrera and Ramiro Hernandes replaced their counterparts for the hosts. The home side made three substitutions in the eightieth minute, bringing on Santiago Salle, Marabel and Julian Mavilla in quick succession.
The statistics tell a story of control without consequence. Belgrano completed 485 passes against 197 for Sarmitiento, but their expected goals figure of 2.18 produced only a single strike. Shots accuracy sat at 41 per cent for the visitors while Sarmitiento managed 44, suggesting the home side were more clinical with what they had.
Our forecast had backed Belgrano to win at 38 per cent confidence, but the match went another way. Sarmitiento carved out enough moments to stay level and held firm when it mattered. The draw halts any momentum Belgrano might have built and reminds everyone that football does not always reward possession.
