In April 2022 the Eisvögel took a German basketball championship for the first time, beating Rheinland Lions 3-1 in the final series. The title came nine years after the club's other major honour, the DBBL-Pokal, won in 2013 against evo NB Oberhausen.

The club dates back to 1972, formed within USC Freiburg, and split its home fixtures between the Universitäts-Sporthalle and the larger Sepp-Glaser-Halle, which holds 2,300. The nickname Eisvögel, ice birds, sticks to the team in dark blue and white across both league business.

That fixture is the Baden-Derby against BasCats Heidelberg.

The club continues in the top flight of German women's basketball, carrying the 2022 championship as the marker by which its current squad is judged.
