ALBA Berlin Women

ALBA Berlin had run a men's team for decades before it put a women's side on the floor in 2016, built as the club's own section rather than an absorbed outfit. Professional status followed in 2019/20, and the team reached the DBBL, Germany's top women's division, for the first time in 2022.

Until then the Albatrosses trained and played in a side hall at the Max-Schmeling-Hallen that held 300 people. The move to the Sömmeringhalle in Charlottenburg that autumn gave them a proper ball-sports venue seating 2,500, and a home worth showing up to.

Maggie Mulligan scored the team's first Bundesliga points that debut season; she retired in February 2025. The bigger night came in 2024, when ALBA Berlin beat Rutronik Stars Keltern 3-2 in the final series to take the club's first German championship, with Deeshyra Thomas named MVP of the series. Two years later they beat the same opponent again, 67-62, for their first German Cup.

Berlin's local derby runs against TuS Lichterfelde, a club that supplied ALBA with youth players for years before the sides re-established a formal development partnership in 2024. That pipeline shows in the squad: Lilli Schultze came up through the academy, and her father Sven Schultze remains a name attached to the club from its men's side.

The Albatrosses took their Eurocup bow in the 2024/25 season and now play as reigning German champions and cup holders.
