1. DBBL Women (Germany) 2026/27

The 1. Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (1. DBBL) stands as the premier professional women's basketball competition in Germany. Founded in 1947, the league has evolved from its origins under the German Basketball Federation into an independent entity managed by the Damen-Basketball-Bundesligen GmbH since 2001. It operates at the highest level of the national pyramid, offering a distinct structure compared to the men's equivalent.

The season comprises a regular phase followed by a decisive playoff period. The top eight sides progress to the knockout stages, where matches are contested as Best-of-Five series. This format applies to the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final, a change implemented in the recent past to increase intensity. The current title holder is Rutronik Stars Keltern, who secured their victory in the 2024/25 campaign.

Historical dominance is shared among several clubs. DJK Agon 08 Düsseldorf leads the record books with twelve championships. They are closely pursued by BTV 1846 Wuppertal and TSV 1880 Wasserburg, each having claimed eleven crowns. The league currently fields ten teams, a reduction from earlier years driven by stringent licensing criteria. These requirements cover financial stability and infrastructure, such as venue capacity, which limits movement between the top flight and the second division.

Media exposure for the competition has increased through a specific partnership. The 2025/26 season sees all games streamed exclusively on YouTube via a deal with Dyn. This arrangement allows fans to watch without additional cost, marking a shift in how the sport reaches its audience. The competition remains a closed shop in practice, with promotion from the 2. DBBL being rare due to the high standards required for participation.
