KR Reykjavik Women

In 1982, when the Icelandic Basketball Association handed out its first ever Player of the Year award for the women's game, it went to Linda Jónsdóttir of KR. She would go on to collect nine league titles and six cups in a KR shirt.

That section was formed in 1956, decades after Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur itself had been founded, and it built its identity separately from the football side even while keeping the same black and white. Fourteen championships in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna followed, starting with a first title in 1961 and running through a string of wins across the 1980s before a further pair arrived in 1999 and 2001–02, and a fourteenth in 2009–10.

Games are played at Frostaskjóli 2, in a hall built in 1971 and measuring just 16 by 32 metres, and now scheduled to be replaced by a new multi-purpose facility expected around 2027. Matches against Valur carry the weight of a Reykjavík derby between two of the capital's oldest clubs, while Stjarnan, out in Garðabær, has become the sharper rival of recent seasons.
