Limpopo went eight seasons without a first-class fixture. Cricket South Africa quietly dropped the team from the first-class table after that single year, leaving it to play out the Rural League and other sub-first-class cricket while four sides admitted alongside it carried on. The team only returned to first-class status in 2022–23, alongside Mpumalanga, and marked the comeback that November with a nine-wicket win over the same Mpumalanga side, wicket-keeper batsman Sizwe Masondo making a century in the match.

The Impalas, as the province is known, play in green and gold out of the Polokwane Cricket Club Ground, which holds 13,000. Captain Ludwig Kaestner led the side through the 2023–24 season, when Limpopo beat Northern Cape in Polokwane to win the CSA Provincial T20 Cup, now run as the T20 Knock-Out Competition.

Twenty-two wickets each, that season is what Tumi Masekela and Sammy Letsoalo took to top the bowling in that first, doomed 2006–07 campaign.
