Mpumalanga

Provincial cricket in South Africa was reorganised in 1998 to give Mpumalanga a senior side of its own, and the Rhinos took shape as the representative team for the province, run out of Witbank while playing their home fixtures at Uplands College in White River. First-class status came only in 2006, when Cricket South Africa expanded the Provincial Three-Day Challenge, and Roelof Hugo captained the side through that debut season. It did not last: poor results cost Mpumalanga its first-class place after a single campaign, and the team spent years playing in the lower reaches of the domestic structure before readmission arrived in 2022.

The 2023–24 season produced the innings by which the readmission era is now measured, when Jurie Snyman made 200 not out, the highest first-class score in the team's history, and turned it into the side's first win since coming back. Kieran Kenny's 7 for 51 in the same period stands as the best bowling return since 2022. Muhammed Mayet captains the side now, at a ground with room for 2,800 spectators.

Mpumalanga plays out of Division 2 in the one-day, T20 and three-day competitions, and a national title in any of them, the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge, the T20 Knock-Out or the 3-Day Cup, is still something the Rhinos have never won.
