Easterns

Easterns go into their fixtures these days without a franchise umbrella over them. The union that plays out of Benoni once carried the Eastern Transvaal Cricket Union title, formed in June 1991 when it broke away from the Northern Transvaal union, though it had already been turning out in List A cricket since the 1989–90 season. Provincial boundary changes forced a rename to Easterns ahead of 1995–96.

The single most prized entry on the list is the Currie Cup, won outright in 2002–03. Two years later Easterns merged with Northerns to form the Titans, a franchise that went on to collect four-day and one-day domestic titles through to 2021, when South African cricket dismantled the franchise system and sent the old unions back out on their own. Easterns picked up the thread with limited honours of their own, the One-Day Provincial Cup in 2018–19 and the CSA Provincial T20 Cup the following season, and now meet Northerns again in what's known locally as the Gauteng Derby.

André Nel, who came through the union before a long international career, later returned to coach the side.

Willowmoore Park has hosted bigger stages than provincial cricket alone; it took three matches during the 2003 World Cup.
