Loots Bosman opened the batting for South Africa the way he did for the province he grew up representing, and the 170-run stand he shared with Graeme Smith still stands as a world record for a one-day opening partnership.

The team he came through began life in 1884 as Kimberley Cricket Club, and by the time it won the Currie Cup in the 1890–91 season, against Transvaal, it played under the name Griqualand West. That name held for well over a century, through a Barnato Cup win in 1910 and into the one-day era, before the province was renamed Northern Cape in 2015 to match the country's provincial boundaries.

Reeza Hendricks carried the province's name into the current national side, scoring a century on his own ODI debut.
