Ferroviária completed a comeback against Internacional in the Brazilian Championship, winning 2:1 at the Estádio Beira-Rio on Friday evening. The result lifts the visitors to fourth place, moving them four points clear of the hosts who remain ninth in the table. Internacional had looked comfortable for much of the contest, but three goals in the final ten minutes turned the match on its head.
Debora opened the scoring for Internacional in the 77th minute, a tidy finish after sustained pressure. Ferroviária responded through Sissi in the 88th minute, and Maressa completed the turnaround in stoppage-time to seal the win. The goals came in a frantic conclusion that caught the home side unprepared.
Both sides made several changes during the second half. Internacional brought on Catyellen in the 58th minute before adding Vendito and Mariana Santos after the hour mark. The visitors introduced Aninha and J. Mylena in the 78th minute, while Internacional made a triple substitution in the 84th minute, bringing on Grazy, Fatima Dutra and Nicoly. Pati Llanos came on for Ferroviária at the very end of the match.
Internacional controlled more territory with 134 attacks compared to 118 for the visitors, and held 49 per cent of possession. The hosts registered eight shots on target to Ferroviária's four, yet could only convert one. The visitors were more clinical, turning their smaller number of chances into two goals. Both sides had three shots off target and no offside calls.
The result means Ferroviária extend their unbeaten run, having drawn their last two outings against Palmeiras and Juventude. Internacional's form has been inconsistent, with wins over Flamengo but heavy defeats to Bahia and Flamengo in recent weeks. The hosts will need to find consistency if they are to climb out of the bottom half.
Ferroviária now sit on 31 points from 17 matches, with only two defeats all season. Internacional remain on 27 points with six losses to their name, and the gap between them at the table is likely to widen if the visitors maintain this level of discipline.
