Barnet moved further clear of trouble in the League Two table as they secured a 3-1 victory away at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday. The visitors took control of the second-round fixture and had the game won inside twenty minutes after Jake Reeves opened the scoring. Shrewsbury pulled one back through Josh Davison before half-time, but Barnet restored their lead and then extended it to seal the result.
Reeves found the net in the thirteenth minute to give Barnet an early advantage. Davison responded for the hosts in the forty-first minute to level matters before the interval. Charlie Lakin restored Barnet's lead in the eighty-third minute, and Tom Knowles added a fourth in stoppage time to cap the visitors' performance.
Substitutions began in the sixty-first minute when Barnet brought on Idris Kanu and Zac Williams for Jake Reeves. Will Gray came on for Shrewsbury in the sixty-fifth minute, followed by Luca Hoole and Joe Gbode. Jay Turner-Cooke received a yellow card for the hosts in the sixty-eighth minute, and Barnet made four changes in the closing minutes.
Barnet dominated possession with 56 per cent of the ball and registered three shots on target from six attempts. Shrewsbury held 44 per cent possession but managed only one shot on target from six efforts. The visitors also won more corners, nine to seven, and completed 221 passes compared to Shrewsbury's 145.
The result leaves Barnet in second place with eight points from four games, while Shrewsbury remain rooted at twenty-second with just three points. The visitors have now gone four matches without defeat, whereas the hosts have won only once this season.
