Åsane Women

Bergen has two women's sides, and Åsane's is the one against Arna-Bjørnar and FK Fyllingsdalen — the byderby, fought without a shared stand or a shared history. There is no love lost across the city on those weekends.

The club traces back to 4 November 1971, formed inside Åsane Allianseidrettslag before women's football in Norway had settled into a proper pyramid. Promotions came slowly and then in clusters: the Hordaland third division in 2006, the fourth-tier 2. divisjon in 2011, and second place in 1. divisjon in 2022, which finally opened the door to Toppserien. The top flight lasted one season. Åsane finished eighth in 2023, still the best league placing in the club's history, and went down anyway. That same year they reached the quarter-final of the NM Cup, the closest they have come to unsettling one of the bigger names in Norwegian football.

The shirt is orange and black, a colour choice borrowed from Wolverhampton Wanderers rather than from anything local, and it now sits on a shared badge with the men's team. The two clubs merged into a single organisation on 1 January 2024, following a decision taken the previous autumn — administrative unification rather than a change to how or where the women's side plays. Home games stay at Åsane Arena, a ground that holds up to around 3,500.

Milena Kokosz, the Polish international, captained the side through its recent seasons; Helene Gloppen has been the more familiar Norwegian name in the squad. Neither stayed for a nickname to form — supporters and the local press simply call the team Åsane, or refer to it by the district.

Relegation dropped them back into 1. divisjon Kvinner, where they play the 2025 season with the return to Toppserien as the only meaningful target on the table.
