Grei

The women who took the field for Linderud-Grei in the autumn of 2009 did something no team from Groruddalen had managed before: they won the 1. divisjon and carried a club from that part of the city into Toppserien for the first time.

Getting there had been close-run. A year earlier the same side needed play-offs against Vålerenga simply to stay in the division. The top flight, when it came, lasted a single season — Grei finished bottom in 2010 and stayed up only because Donn were obliged to drop down. That is the whole of the club's time in the highest division, and the line has barely moved since.

What followed was a longer descent and a slower climb. The team won 2. divisjon, group 2, in 2022, then beat Kongsvinger in the qualifiers a year later to return to the 1. divisjon, where it plays now under the name Grei Kvinner Elite. The men's and women's sides belong to Sportsforeningen Grei, a sports club founded in Oslo on 1 April 1919, and the women play at GreiKunstgress on Apalløkkveien.

The club has no national trophy. Its cup record is a series of early rounds.

The name has changed more than once — Linderud-Grei, Linderud-Grei Toppfotball, Grei Kvinner Elite — which makes the 2009 squad harder to trace than most.
