TIL 2020 Women

Women's football in Tromsø did not start from nothing when two clubs in the city decided to pool what they had. Tromsø IL and Tromsdalen UIL set up a shared vehicle for the women's side of the game in the region, and on 16 December 2020 that vehicle got a name of its own: Tromsø Idrettslag 2020.

In September 2024 the partners agreed that Tromsø IL would take on the women's football project outright, and from 1 January 2025 TIL 2020 stopped existing as a separate organisation.

For a club that never left the lower tiers — 2023 and 2024 were spent in the fourth division, 3. divisjon fotball for kvinner — it played its home matches in a stadium built for a rather different audience. Romssa Arena, the ground that used to be called Alfheim Stadion, holds close to 6,800.

There was structure behind it. Jonas Johannsen worked as sporting director, and the club signed players to contracts rather than relying on whoever turned up — Elea, for one, was tied down to 2025.

Tromsdalen UIL's women had gone further, once. Back in 2007 they played in 1. divisjon Kvinner, the second tier, and finished tenth.

TIL 2020 won nothing.
