On 25 November 2022, Yakelin Zúcapuqui scored the only goal against Defensores del Ilucán.

The comeback moved fast by the standards of Peruvian women's football. The Copa Perú Femenina title in 2022 came under Lucy Rodríguez, a coach with her own history at the club — she had kept goal for that first Melgar side in 2000. Promotion did not bring comfort straight away: in 2023, in their maiden Liga Femenina season, Melgar sat low in the table and had to survive relegation play-offs to stay up.

Two decades on, the current squad still traces back to that one regional season in 2000 — the brief appearance that, after the long gap, gave the revived project both its coach and its starting point.
