Paranoá sits about 50 km from Brasília, one of the satellite cities of the Federal District. The club's registration papers give the capital as its headquarters. It began in 2000 as Colorado Esporte Clube Paranoá, a name that pointed to red and black, and took its present name in 2002 when it turned professional. The kit is navy blue and yellow, and the nickname, Cobra Sucuri (the anaconda), comes from the mascot.

Juninho Paranoá, a forward, came back for several spells between 2003 and 2013. Agenor Figueiredo Santos was a midfielder in the side that won the 2004 second-division title, and he died in a car accident in 2019.

That 2004 title, which came together with the Taça Brasília, was the first of three in the Campeonato Brasiliense Segunda Divisão. The others followed in 2019 and 2021. The top flight of the Brasília championship has never gone to the club.

After winning the Campeonato Brasiliense de Juniores in 2016, it went to the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior in 2017 and drew with Palmeiras.

Paranoá's main rival is Capital Futebol Clube, and their meeting is called the "Clássico do Paranoá".
