Reboceros La Piedad

The men behind Reboceros de La Piedad were craftsmen from the Perros Bravos neighbourhood. When they formed a club in Michoacán on 12 November 1951, they named it for that trade: Reboceros, after the rebozo, the woven shawl La Piedad has produced for generations.

The early years suggested more than the club could sustain. La Piedad won the Segunda División in its first campaign, 1951-52, and went straight up to the Primera División, only to come back down after a single season. Ascenso MX titles in 2001 and 2012 both earned promotion to the top flight, and both proved brief: the 2012 title, won against Dorados de Sinaloa with Toros Neza beaten in the playoff, lasted barely a season before the franchise was sold and shipped off to Veracruz, reborn there as Tiburones Rojos.

Francisco "Kikín" Fonseca made his professional debut here at the turn of the century, years before he took the field at the 2006 World Cup. The club has since operated in the Liga Premier's Serie A, the third tier, playing out of the Estadio Juan Nepomuceno López.
