Ulaangom City

Uvs Province wanted a team of its own in national competition, and in 2018 coaches, players and administrators from the province set about building one. Ulaangom City is what they made, and it plays in the provincial red, with black as the away colour.

The club began in the amateur ranks. In 2023 it won the National Amateur Cup without losing a game, beating Khökh Zapuus 1–0 in the final. Striker N. Sainbuyan scored 17 goals in that tournament, more than anyone else, and the win took the club into the Mongolia Second League.

It stayed there for one season. Ulaangom finished second in 2023/24, and goalkeeper J. Dashnyam and defender E. Amarsaana were named the best in their positions in the division. Promotion to the First League followed, and the pattern repeated: runners-up again in 2024/25, one place short of going up automatically.

The place came anyway. Erchim FC turned down their own promotion, and the Premier League spot for 2025–26 went to Ulaangom.

The man at the centre of all this is manager Buyankhishig Purevjav. He was a defender in the Premier League with FC Ulaanbaatar and Ulaanbaatar City, and had a spell in Taiwan. He now leads a club playing home games in front of 3,000 at Ulaangom City Stadium.
