Zimbru II

Zimbru II never plays for anything a table can measure. Whatever it wins on the pitch, promotion stays out of reach — Moldovan rules bar reserve sides from moving up regardless of where they finish. The 2024–25 season made the point plainly: the team topped Liga 1 and stayed in Liga 1.

The club exists to feed the first team, not to chase silverware of its own, and it carries none — no cup runs, no titles that count. What it has instead is a production line. Igor Armaș spent three years there, from 2004 to 2007, before going on to captain the Moldovan national side; Andrei Cojocari passed through the same setup. Neither stayed to build a reserve-team career — that was never the point of the place.

Home games are played at the Zimbru-2 Stadium, the second pitch inside the club's own complex in the Botanica district of Chișinău, holding 2,000. There is no separate ground to speak of, no separate identity in the crest or the kit — the yellow and green, and the nickname Galben-verzii, belong to the senior side and simply carry over. Nicolae Cernîi presides over the parent club that the reserves answer to.

Nobody points to a founding date with any certainty. What the record does show is when the team settled into regular competition: from the 1997–98 season it became a fixture of Moldova's second tier, after an earlier spell in Liga 2 in the 1993–94 campaign. That lower rung is still where it plays now, three decades on, doing the same job it started with — developing players for Zimbru, not standings for itself.
