Mombasa Elite

The club now known as Mombasa Elite grew out of Magongo Rangers. In 2013 a sponsorship deal with the Modern Coast bus company turned Magongo Rangers into Modern Coast Rangers; the rebrand to Mombasa Elite came later still, though nothing in the record fixes the year.

The club has settled into the National Super League, Kenya's second tier, without yet forcing its way past it in any lasting sense. Some listings have Mombasa Elite in the top-flight Premier League for 2025/26; others name Nairobi United as the club promoted that year, and the two accounts do not agree. In 2023 the club withdrew from the FKF Cup draw rather than take part.

Serani seats only around a thousand, which keeps derby days against Mombasa Stars close enough. Coastal Heroes and SS Assad supply the other fixture the city calls a derby. Among the players who passed through as Modern Coast Rangers, Francis Omondi's midfield spell is the one with a clear afterlife: he moved on to Mathare United.

Serani Sports Ground holds roughly 1,000 spectators.
