MOFA

Michael Olunga did not have to look far to name his club. In 2022 the Kenya captain put his own academy badge on a Homa Bay side and sent it into the FKF National Super League as MOFA, a set of initials that stand for the Michael Olunga Football Academy.

The club trains out of the Othoro Centre and plays in front of up to 3,000 people at the Raila Odinga Homa Bay Stadium, out in a bold red kit the club describes as standing for strength, passion and unity. Under coach Lloyd Wahome, MOFA finished seventh in the National Super League, and in the FKF Cup their run ended in the round of 32 against Kenya Police FC. Captain Joseph Bate has carried the armband through that period, with goalkeeper Paul Odhiambo marshalling the back line behind him. Bringing in striker Joshua Amunike from Nairobi City Stars and midfielder Steve Brian from Naivas FC.

Locally, the club answers to The White Rhinos, and its fiercest fixture lies within its own backyard. Against Migori Youth FC, another South Nyanza outfit, MOFA plays the South Nyanza Derby, a meeting that carries more weight around Homa Bay than anything against the region's other neighbours, Nzoia Sugar FC or Gucha Stars FC.
