Soy United

Promotion to the National Super League has come twice in a year for Soy United, and it took two different routes each time. In the 2024/25 season the club finished top of the FKF Division One table and earned automatic promotion outright, only to have it stripped away after an appeal from Gucha Stars. The second chance was won the harder way: in October 2025 Alfred Ratolo settled a playoff against Bumbani Stars with a goal in the 65th minute at Dandora Stadium, sending the club up 1-0.

That result sat on top of a run that had already carried the club from village football into the national conversation. Soy United won the FKF Division Two Western Zone B title in 2024, the platform that took them into Division One, and added the Karamoja Super Cup the same year with a final win over Samitsi FC. None of it was new to the club — back in 2020/2021, with the league halted by the pandemic, Soy United had already forced its way into the National Super League once before, beating Mulei Children Family 10-9 on penalties in a playoff at Utalii Grounds in Nairobi.

The club plays out of Likuyani, in Kakamega County, at the Ivugwi Primary School Grounds — a school pitch rather than a stadium, and one the club itself has called short of National Super League standard, which is why it has been pushing to find a proper public venue to host second-tier football. Founded in 2018, Soy United carries the motto "Help One to Help Another."

Ratolo's playoff strike is the name people in Likuyani reach for first when the promotion comes up — the goal that made the second promotion stick where the first one didn't.
