Equity Bank

Equity Bank Kenya, one of the country's largest financial institutions, put the club together in 2011 to carry its name into Kenyan football, and it has run as a corporate side ever since — hence the nickname The Bankers, a plain reference to who signs the cheques. The team plays out of Ruaraka Stadium in Nairobi, a ground that holds 4,000.

The closest it has come to a title is the 2021 FKF Shield Cup, where a 1-0 win over the defending champions, Bandari FC, took it to the semi-finals before the run ended there. Equity Bank has never reached the Kenyan Premier League, and the club has gone fifteen years without a major trophy to show for the backing behind it.

The bank's involvement in sport reaches further than the football side: its women's basketball team won the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League in 2017, a separate operation but a reminder that the corporate name carries weight in more than one code. On the pitch, though, Equity Bank sits outside Nairobi's main football rivalry, the Mashemeji Derby contested by Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, and has yet to build a fixture of its own that carries the same weight.
