Atlético San Luis Women

Five clubs have shared every Liga MX Femenil championship since the tournament began — Tigres UANL, Monterrey, América, Guadalajara and Pachuca — and Atlético San Luis has yet to break into that circle. Every season closes with the trophy going somewhere else, and the closest the Tuneras have come is simply staying in the division long enough to keep trying.

The team exists because the league said it had to. When the men's side of Atlético de San Luis won promotion to Primera División de México, new rules required promoted clubs to field a women's team alongside it. The women's side took shape on 28 May 2019 and stepped onto the pitch for the first time on 15 July that year, in the Clausura tournament. A pilot squad had trained in the city for a few years before that, but the professional status starts with that Clausura debut.

They play at Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramírez, the same 30,000-seat ground the men's team calls home, and wear the same white, red and navy colours the men's side does. The nickname Tuneras, the feminine form of Tuneros, reaches back further than either club: it comes from the tuna cactus fruit long associated with San Luis Potosí and from the city's mining past. Some also call them Colchoneras, for the red-and-white stripes across the shirt, a name that travels with the men's team too.

What the women's side does not yet have is a title of its own — only the same starting point as every club that has come through the league since 2019, a debut in the middle of a Clausura tournament, still waiting to catch the five that got there first.
