PSV Salzburg play in the 2. Bundesliga and enter the Austria Cup. Their home is the University and Provincial Sports Centre (ULSZ) at Rif, in Hallein, where the hall holds 1,000 and the team wears black and white.

The name is short for Polizeisportverein, the police sports club, and the volleyball section it opened in 2004 was built on a team that already existed. It took over the women's side of UVC Wüstenrot, so the players arrived before the club did. Two years later, in 2006, the section merged with VBG Salzburg. That is where the full name, PSV VBG Salzburg, comes from.

The volleyball behind it is older than the police club. The original Uni-Klub was founded in 1970. Salzburg's trophies come from the years when the team played as UVC Salzburg: the Austrian Cup in 1988 and 1991, then the Austrian Championship in 1993. The two cup wins came first and the title followed, and it remains the peak of that line of clubs. PSV Salzburg carry that history but have won none of those honours under their own name.
