Swidnik

Świdnik grew up around the PZL aircraft works, and for decades the works' sports club was the town's outlet for anything played on a court or a pitch. The volleyball section dates from 1952, set up inside the multi-sport RKS Stal Świdnik before the aviation sponsors took hold of the name a year later. It has carried several since — FKS, KS, ASPS, and since 2017 MKS Avia Świdnik — but the yellow and blue has stayed constant, and so has the tie to the factory whose name still sits on the shirt.

The best of it came early. A third-place finish in the Polish Ekstraklasa in 1976 remains the club's high-water mark, backed by a third place in the Polish Cup the year before. Both belong to an era when Świdnik could compete with the country's leading sides; nothing since has matched it.

The club worked its way back into contention with a first-place finish in the II Liga in 2013, then reached the 1. Liga in 2020, the second tier of Polish men's volleyball, where it still plays. Home matches go on at the Sports Hall by Primary School No. 7, a 500-seat hall that keeps crowds close to the court rather than lost in it.

Distance from Lublin, a short drive away, has given Świdnik its sharpest rivalry: LUK Politechnika Lublin draws the derby crowd and the regional bragging rights that go with it, in a fixture with no love lost on either side. For now, staying competitive in the 1. Liga is the task in front of the club, with the top flight of 1976 a reference point rather than a realistic target.
