About

PLS 1. Liga serves as the second tier of men's volleyball in Poland, sitting directly below the top-flight PlusLiga. Organizational control transferred from the Polish Volleyball Federation (PZPS) to the Polska Liga Siatkówki SA (PLS SA) in 2018/2019, a move that marked a significant professionalization step. The competition features 16 teams competing in a regular season played in a single group using a round-robin system where each team plays every other team twice, both home and away. Following the regular season, the top eight teams advance to the play-offs. The winner of the play-offs secures direct promotion to the PlusLiga. At the same time, the two last-placed teams in the league table face relegation to the II Liga, although the reserve team of the Polish Volleyball Federation, SMS PZPS Spała, remains exempt from relegation regardless of its standing.

The league has undergone several name changes due to sponsorship over its history. It was previously known as Tauron 1. Liga and Krispol 1. Liga before operating as PLS 1. Liga for the 2025/2026 season. The competition was founded in 1989 by the PZPS, with the inaugural season played in 1990/1991. Initially named I liga Seria B, it served as an intermediate division between the top tier and the third tier. In 2005/2006, the league was renamed simply 1. Liga. Notable historical reforms include the introduction of a licensing system for clubs.

Stilon Gorzów Wielkopolski stands as the most successful club in the league's history with three titles, while Stal Nysa, BBTS Bielsko-Biała, and Trefl Gdańsk have each claimed two. The current champion for the 2024/2025 season is CHKS Chełm, which defeated KKS Mickiewicz Kluczbork 3–0 in the final series to secure promotion to the PlusLiga. The league table currently includes clubs such as Anioly Torun, Astra Nowa Sol, Augustow, Bedzin, Bielsko-Biala, and BKS Bostik Bydgoszcz.
