Lokomotiv Moscow

Dmitri Loskov spent his career in the red and green, and by the time he was done he had made more appearances and set up more goals than anyone else who has worn the shirt. He captained the side through its strongest run and is still the name supporters reach for when asked what the club is about. The academy that later produced Alexei and Anton Miranchuk sits in that same tradition.

The line goes back to Kazanka, a team put together in 1922 by staff of the Moscow-Kazan railway. It was renamed twice more — to KOR, then back to Kazanka — before taking the name Lokomotiv on 12 January 1936. Spartak and CSKA had already been established rivals in Moscow by then, which is where the old nickname "the fifth wheel" came from; the current one, Railwaymen, points to where the club actually came from.

A first Russian championship did not arrive until 1999, followed by a second in 2002 and a third in 2017/18. Cup football has produced more silverware: nine Russian Cup wins between 1996 and 2021, plus three Russian Super Cups. Games against Spartak and CSKA are still billed as Moscow derbies, while Zenit is the rival that tends to matter most when the title is actually on the line.

Home matches are played at the RZD Arena, rebuilt in 2017 and renamed from its previous Lokomotiv Stadium title. It holds 27,320.
