Pioneros de Cancún defeated Inter Playa del Carmen 4-0 in the Primera Premier's second round of the regular season on Monday evening. The visitors took all three points from the match, extending their winless start to the campaign. Inter's defence collapsed under pressure while discipline became a major issue throughout.
E. Martinez opened the scoring in the 16th minute before R. Rubio struck twice in quick succession, first in the 25th and then in the 32nd. That gave Pioneros a commanding lead before half-time. A fourth goal came in the 56th minute to settle any remaining nerves.
The match unraveled further after the interval with three red cards between them. A player was sent off in the 46th minute, followed by dismissals in the 59th and 79th minutes. By then Inter were playing with reduced numbers and could not recover.
Statistics showed equal possession at 0.5 for both sides, but Pioneros were more clinical. They registered six shots on target compared to Inter's three, and their attacks totalled 99 against 93. The visitors also earned eight goal kicks while Inter managed only four.
The result leaves Pioneros in 15th place with zero points from one game. They have now lost both of their opening fixtures, having drawn 1-1 with Chapelineros in April before this defeat. Inter's recent form included a 4-0 win over Ereros de Sasi in March but that feels distant now.
