Pumas UNAM Women put four goals past Querétaro Women to win 5-0 in the fourth round of the Liga MX regular season. The match took place on Thursday evening at the home ground. M. Hernandez opened the scoring after just two minutes, and the visitors never really settled after that.
A. Mendoza doubled the lead in the ninth minute, and Hernandez restored the two-goal cushion before half-time. S. Ribeiro then came on to add another pair of goals in quick succession, the first arriving in the 37th minute and the second in the 43rd. By then the result was never really in doubt.
There were several changes across the match. D. Heredia-Beltran and E. Lunyamila were substituted in the 35th minute, followed by A. Lopez and M. Perez at the break. C. Vite came on in the 56th, while Hernandez and Mendoza were both taken off together in the 65th. C. Torres and P. Chinchilla followed at 77 and 78, and A. Guerrero made a late appearance in the 88th. F. Rosales Miranda received a yellow card near the end.
And here's the thing about this result — it tells you more about the gap between these sides than any table position. Pumas UNAM Women had already shown they could compete, sitting sixth with nine points from five games. They'd beaten Necaxa 2-1 earlier in August but also lost 5-2 to León. Querétaro, meanwhile, are rock bottom with just three points from five matches and only one victory to their name.
That single win for the visitors came against León 1-0, but they've been on the receiving end of heavier defeats since. The 3-0 loss to Santos Laguna and the 4-1 thrashing by América both came in April, while the 1-3 defeat to Guadalajara was more recent. This 5-0 scoreline extends their winless run to four matches across all competitions.
