Instead, in 1940, a group of local enthusiasts led by the politician Ernesto Matén Carranza put one together under his own name. It did not last: by 1943 the funding had dried up and the side broke apart. Two years later, three men — Efraín Rojas, Rafael Porras Chinchilla and Carlos Castro — rebuilt it from scratch and gave it the name it carries now, Aserrí F.C.

The town's indigenous history gave the club its nickname, Los Caciques . There is little of the latter to speak of: no trophy from Costa Rica's top flight, no Copa Costa Rica. The club plays instead in the Liga de Ascenso, the country's second tier, at the Estadio Municipal de Aserrí, known locally as Vueltas de Jorco, which holds 2,000 people.

The franchise itself has not always stayed put. In 2018 it was leased out to C.S. 11 de Abril for three years; it came back to Aserrí in 2020 and was handed to AD Rosario. Through those changes, the club has leaned on FIFA Forward funding to keep its youth football running, and in 2023 finished rebuilding its sports complex. Minor Barquero took charge for the 2022–23 season, with Mauricio Wright also among those who have coached the side.
