Barrie Colts and Oshawa Generals played out a 0:0 draw in the Ontario Hockey League on Friday evening. Neither side managed to find the net despite both bringing their recent form into the contest. The result leaves both clubs still searching for their first points of the campaign.
Barrie sit tenth in the table after four games, recording zero wins, zero draws and four losses. Oshawa occupy third place with three victories and one defeat, yet also sit on zero points. By then the standings told a curious story, one that a stalemate only deepened.
The hosts arrived with a run of heavy defeats. They lost 2:5 to Sudbury Wolves on Thursday and 0:6 to the same side two days earlier. Before that came a 1:2 defeat to North Bay Battalion and two close losses to Kitchener Rangers in May.
Oshawa came into the fixture with mixed results. Their most recent outing ended 0:6 against Guelph Storm, but earlier they had beaten North Bay 7:2 and Mississauga 3:2. Those performances suggested an attack capable of scoring, even if the defence occasionally looked exposed.
Our forecast had backed the hosts to win, with 66 per cent confidence. The prediction did not come to pass. And here's the thing — Oshawa's structure was too disciplined for Barrie to break through, and the visitors offered little in return.
The draw means both sides remain winless in the league. It also extends Barrie's losing streak while halting Oshawa's momentum after back-to-back results. The table will not shift until someone finds the net.
