Maritimo drew 2:2 with Academica Viseu in the third round of the Primera Liga at the Estadio do Maritimo on Saturday. The hosts held seventh place with seven points from four games, while the visitors sat fifteenth on two points after four matches.
Andre Clovis opened the scoring for Academica in the 25th minute. Maritimo responded before the break with two quick goals from S. Messeguem in the 45th and 45+1st minutes. P. Henrique extended the lead in the 70th minute.
Academica pulled level through two penalty goals from A. Butzke, converted in the 87th and 88th minutes. Raphael Guzzo picked up two yellow cards in quick succession around the 43rd and 44th minutes. Several substitutions followed in the second half, with Maritimo bringing on Pedro Barcelos and V. Danilovic.
Maritimo dominated possession at 53 per cent and completed 368 passes compared to Academica's 332. The hosts generated 107 attacks and took 10 shots, but converted with an accuracy of 36 per cent. Academica created four big chances against one, with an expected goals tally of 1.84 to Maritimo's 1.28.
The result leaves Maritimo with a positive goal difference after their fourth match, while Academica remain winless with two draws and two defeats. The visitors had drawn 2:2 with Benfica in their previous outing, suggesting they can compete despite their position in the table.
